Mr. Richey founded the DYC in 2013 out of a desire to have both a performing choir that would also serve as a music class. The goal was and continues to be to give students a love for great music by performing together and sharpening their skills as singers.
Jarrod Richey grew up in central Louisiana, moved to north Louisiana for college, and never left. He is a choir director and music teacher by training. In addition to directing the Delta Youth Chorale, he teaches music and choir at Geneva Academy in West Monroe, Louisiana. He is also the Director of Music at Church of the Redeemer in West Monroe, LA. He is married to Sarah Richey and they have seven choristers from seventeen down to age three.
Mr. Richey is the author of several books designed to help parents and fellow educators as they seek better to understand the goal of music literacy for all. He has a passion to bring joyful music literacy to as many people as he can. The Delta Youth Chorale has become a way to develop skillful singers and musicians in Northeast Louisiana.
A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet mornings of spring which I enjoy with my whole heart. I am alone.
